EarlyWork Exhibition Preview & Garden Toast Followed By An Artist Talk & Opening Celebration

On July 27, join us at EarlyWork partner gallery, Mariane Ibrahim, for a champagne toast celebrating their upcoming summer group exhibition featuring stellar Chicago artists alongside artists from their program. After we toast their exhibition on their gorgeous outdoor patio, we will venture inside for a lively artist talk between a few of the artists on view. Once we've heard from the artists and explore the artworks in the exhibition, we'll head back out to the patio to continue the celebration with fun refreshments and bites! The moments right before an exhibition opens are extra special, so this event provides the unique opportunity to experience that energy with an intimate toast to the artists (one or two might even join us) with the EarlyWork crew and gallery team and experience a public artist talk and opening where you'll get to mingle with other art lovers!

If you haven't been to Emanuel and Julia's gallery yet... run, don't walk.

Richard Maguire:
Amidst Relations

Amidst Relations is the first solo exhibition of Richard Maguire's (b.1991, Aberdeen) work in the U.S. Concerned with the histories of race and sexuality from Britain and South Asia, Maguire approaches archives as sites of both epistemic loss and abundance, dwelling in the images to consider what they communicate, and that which is veiled. Amidst Relations premieres a recent grouping of intimate graphite on paper drawings adapted from Indo-British visual sources from the last two centuries.

Tue–Sat | 11 - 6 PM

Noé Martínez:
Las raíces conversan por debajo de la tierra

Las raíces conversan por debajo de la tierra, our second solo exhibition with Mexico City based artist, Noé Martínez. Rooted in his exploration of his ancestral Huastecan texts, visual culture, and collective oral narratives, Martínez offers a critique of visual histories, the construction narration of the present, and the persistent collective trauma of indigenous communities stemming from Spanish, colonial-era conquest. For the Huastecan people, roots of trees, the spirits of flora and fauna hold a sacred power. Venerated and evoked through images, rituals, and narratives, artistic traditions and histories can tap into these healing properties, fueling the transformative power of art. Through this lens, Martínez examines post-colonial repercussions over the last 500 years, and initiates a process of communal healing.
