EarlyWork is heading to Twelve Ten Gallery in Edgewater for an artist and gallerist-led walkthrough of Micah Schippa-Wildfong's solo exhibition, LIBERTÉ.
Central to the exhibition is a light installation, which expands on the Chicago-based artist's past performance for the Gray Center for Arts and Inquiry and another work developed for Triangolo gallery in Cremona, Italy. Consisting of a constellation of lights set to various timers, we are presented with a synecdoche of a vast globalized electrical grid, an invisible network existing everywhere and nowhere at once, fluttering with the rhythms of everyday life. Complementing this work are smaller sculptural elements, poiesis drawn from the debris of a vanishing industrial behemoth, mechanical actors worn long past their enabling constraints.
Schippa-Wildfong will guide us through their practice and the ideas shaping the exhibition, joined by Twelve Ten Gallery founder Joshua Johnson, who will offer insight into the gallery’s vision and evolving program.
The artist will also be featured in an upcoming GERTIE exhibition opening this April at the Chicago Cultural Center during EXPO CHICAGO. This visit offers a timely opportunity to engage deeply with Schippa-Wildfong's work in advance of that presentation, while also discovering a compelling gallery space you may not yet have encountered.
