Members are invited to Secrist | Beach for a Private Preview of their solo exhibition Liliana Porter: The Strange Task and concurrent survey exhibition UNREAL on Thursday, April 9, 6 - 10 pm at 1801 W Hubbard Street, Chicago, IL.

Born in Argentina in 1941 and based in New York since 1964, Liliana Porter has developed a enigmatic multidisciplinary practice spanning more than six decades. Porter's expansive exhibition The Strange Task will feature a variety of media including video, photography, painting, printmaking, drawing, collage and small-scale installations. Her work incorporates everyday found objects to investigate themes of identity, labor, and time, with an idiosyncratic blend of poetic metaphor and humor. Porter constructs situations in which ordinary objects are transformed into agents of reflection on the human condition.Explore Porter's studio practice as featured by MoMA's Art for All video series.

UNREAL is an invitational survey exhibition featuring fourteen artists exploring these strange and anxious times through the guise of surrealism. One hundred years later, the core principles of surrealism still revolve around dreamlike narratives, symbolic iconography, distorted or abstract humor, illusionistic play of materials and mediums, and the stretching of rationality in pursuit of liberation. UNREAL takes a flexible, contemporaneous interpretation of these ideologies while keeping a wary eye on the complexities of the current socio-political, conceptual, and philosophical concerns taking place now.
