Step into an evening of conversation and engagement with the work of artist Max Guy! This special evening invites guests into an in-depth conversation with Guy, whose practice explores materiality, gesture, and the ways artworks unfold through time and interaction.
Guy will be joined by art historian and critic Gareth Kaye for a wide-ranging discussion that traces the evolution of his practice, offering insight into both his recent work and the ideas that continue to shape his approach to making. Together, Guy and Kaye will also reflect on work that will be featured in an upcoming GERTIE exhibition opening during EXPO CHICAGO this April, offering a preview of the concepts and processes behind the presentation.
During the evening, the artist will activate Matrix, a replica of his studio table transformed into a sculptural work! Incorporating a scanner, photocopier, printed ephemera, and sound devices, Matrix amplifies and frames the tools and rhythms of Guy’s daily process. What might typically remain behind the scenes becomes part of the experience, as the ongoing labor of making is rendered visible and the studio itself is reimagined as both subject and object of the work.
ABOUT MAX GUY:
