Art and theater in one night? Sounds ideal.
Join us for the first program in our ON VIEW series! Through immersive, two part evenings, the ON VIEW series creates dynamic moments of peak cultural engagement by merging the worlds of live performance and visual art. Designed for those curious about artistic expression beyond the gallery and museum walls, the series embraces a range of mediums from theater and ballet to opera and experimental performance, placing them in thoughtful dialogue with contemporary art.
For ON VIEW: PATRON x Steppenwolf, we’ll begin at PATRON with a private cocktail hour and guided walkthrough of Nyeema Morgan’s solo exhibition, then make our way to Steppenwolf for the 7:30 pm performance of Windfall.
Nyeema Morgan’s work draws on familiar cultural material—recipes, fables, canonical artworks, jokes—to examine the quiet authority of systems: how knowledge is shaped, how meaning is produced, and how representation structures what we see and understand. Her practice invites close looking and layered conversation.
From there, we shift into the intimacy of live theater. In the world premiere of Windfall, Academy Award–winning ensemble member Tarell Alvin McCraney offers a searing meditation on grief, activism, and the true cost of survival. Both urgent and deeply personal, the play interrogates the most indifferent system of all/, the almighty dollar, and asks what it means to choose between comfort and conviction.
Two distinct yet resonant experiences, in one thoughtfully paced night—designed to leave you inspired and more connected to those beside you.

ABOUT NYEEMA MORGAN
Nyeema Morgan’s work references familiar cultural material such as recipes, fables, canonical artworks and jokes to prompt reflection on the soft aesthetic power of systems of knowledge, information production and the mechanics of representation. Her conceptually layered works, ranging from large-scale drawings to sculptural installation and print based media, raise questions about how we articulate and construct meaning within a complex system of socio-political relations.
ABOUT WINDFALL
This is a story about money. Don’t let them fool you otherwise. When a father loses his child in a clash with the police, he is visited by three strangers who advise him to take the city’s cash settlement, relocate and forget his grief–or else remain, haunted by memories of the world his child fought so hard to protect. This lyrical world premiere from Academy Award-winning ensemble member Tarell Alvin McCraney is a vital and timely look at the spirit of activism set against the most indifferent system of them all: the almighty dollar.
